Danbury Concert Venues: Ives Park & The Palace

Updated June 2026 · 5 min read

The short version

The live scene here splits by season. In summer, the open-air Ives Concert Park (about 5,500) hosts outdoor shows. That's on a wooded campus. Year-round, the intimate Palace Danbury (about 400 seats) brings concerts and comedy downtown. It's a small but special scene on the western edge of the state.

Danbury sits at the far western edge of CT. It has a live-music story with real character. An amphitheater here carries the name of a great composer. He was born right in this town.

Ives Concert Park (about 5,500)

Ives Concert Park is the summer showpiece here. It's an open-air amphitheater on 40 wooded acres. It sits beside a pond. That's on Western Connecticut State University's Westside campus. It holds about 5,500. It's named for Charles Ives. He lived from 1874 to 1954. He was a pioneering composer. The Charles Ives Authority for the Performing Arts runs the park. Shows here span touring acts, an orchestra series, jazz, family events, and festivals. It's one of the prettiest outdoor spots in the state.

Best for: outdoor summer shows in a wooded setting.

The Palace Danbury (about 400)

Downtown, the Palace Danbury carries the year-round calendar. It opened on September 6, 1928. Back then it was a vaudeville house. It was also an Art Deco movie palace, with almost 2,000 seats. It closed in 1995. It reopened in 2008, much smaller. Now it has about 400 seats. Today it books concerts, tribute acts, and comedy. You get a close-up view. There's barely a bad seat in the house.

Best for: close-up concerts and comedy downtown, any time of year.
